HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KENNETH!

First...HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Kenneth!  Next year will be the big 4-0 for him.  Geez!  I only thought that was old!  Kade had very definite ideas about his dad's birthday.  We were in the local feed store one day and a cammo knife caught his eye.  He told the guy behind the register that he wanted that for his dad's birthday present.  So we went back the day before Kenneth's birthday and he got the knife.  He even helped wrap it.  (Oh...he's already found something for next year!)  He also had his mind made up about a cake for his dad.  Off we went in search of a deer for a birthday cake!  I really had to get creative on this one!  Fortunately, Hobby Lobby had Christmas ornaments for the hunter. I managed to do the cake in less than 4 hours.  I amazed myself!  Pretty cool cammo, huh?!

FINALLY!

Kenneth had been watching this buck for some time.  The deer was unafraid of Kenneth in the golf cart but when KB was on the deer stand it was a different story.  No matter what KB did the deer saw him.  Finally, Saturday morning, Kenneth decided to use his homemade blind of tree limbs etc. and the big boy showed up to eat.  Kenneth hunts with a bow since we are concerned that there are too many houses close by.  (Wish the rest of the hunters were as conscientious.  We fear for our lives during this time of year!  Orange becomes our favorite color!)  The deer ran quite a distance up the hill before he gave up the fight.  Kara donned her "woods wear" and aided in tracking the poor thing.  Now he's off to the butcher and his head is in the neighbors freezer (I find this disgusting! LOL)   If we just knew how to cook it!  Ugh!

I don't have a current photo of Colton.  Hopefully, I'll get one soon.  (MOM!)  He is starting high school this year.  I hope he has a great four years!  It makes me sad that I don't get to see him more than I do.  (Maybe I should have stayed in Texas!)  PawPaw & I love him very much & wish him the best freshman year ever!

HANGIN' OUT WITH HIS "BOY"

Kooper is six months old now.  There is not a day that I don't wonder what I was thinking!  I'm just too old for a puppy!  Actually, he's a good puppy but occasionally he has a few issues.  If I get too involved in a project that doesn't include him, he leaves me a surprise on the  carpet!  Thankfully, I have the no-stain carpet!  He is always glad to see Kade.  Kooper is Kade's "wild animal" when he plays.  I found Kade one day down on his tummy with Kooper pinned down trying to put him in his kennel.  When I asked what he was doing, he told me he had captured a wild animal & was trying to put him in a cage!  Then some days Kooper is Kade's "sidekick" when he plays "cowboy".  (I don't know how Kade knows about sidekicks & cowboys...not many westerns on TV these days.) Then there are the days when they just run through the house like wild horses!  Those are the days I love!  I would not trade any of these days!  I'll blink & Kade will be a senior.

MY BABY GIRL!

My sweet baby girl is a SENIOR this year!  I still remember the night she was born...our 25th wedding anniversary.  Where in the world did all that time go?!  All the feathers and beads; sequins and lace.  She's grown up to be such a smart, pretty young lady (though there are still a few "blonde" moments"!)  I hope she has a wonderful senior year and that her future is bright!

MY NEW PASTTIME

The reason I've not been posting to the blog is because I've gotten a little sidetracked!  Just a little!  Last year, after my brother's death, I realized that my grandchildren needed to know who their ancestors were.  I decided to do a little family research & signed up on Ancestry.com.  Well, that was life-altering!  I was hooked!  One piece of info lead to another.  So for the last 16 months I have been sitting at the computer looking for all those lost ancestors.  I've covered a lot of ground in a short period of time.  I have a couple of "brick walls" that may do me in though!  I've started trying to limit the time I spend working on genealogy.  So now I'm back blogging.  I know Facebook, etc. are popular these days but I'm just not ready for that!  You can look for updates right here on the ol' blog.
